Are Indian Selectors Planning To Include Sanju Samson Over Rishabh Pant In The 20-20 World Cup Squad?
After having a failed Asia Cup campaign, Team India will be in action against Australia and South Africa on home soil. First, they will play a three-match T20I series against Australia. Then, they will play three T20Is and three ODIs against the Proteas.
Hence, Indian selectors are going to reveal the final squad of India for those series along with the upcoming 20-20 World Cup. Several reports are suggesting that by the end of 12 September 2022, India’s final squad for the upcoming World Cup will be announced. However, now there are many reports that selectors might take some harsh decisions regarding some players’ selection in the World Cup.
Sanju Samson might get a place ahead of Rishabh Pant for the 20-20 World Cup – Reports
According to some recent reports, the Indian selectors might mainly discuss the inclusion of Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Shami. Pant got many chances to show his worth in the shortest format of the game. But, still, he has failed to deliver some promising performance in the T20Is for India.
Hence, Sanju Samson can get a call ahead of him. In recent series, Sanju scored some fifty-plus scores for India. On the other hand, Mohammed Shami had not played for India in this format since the last edition of the World Cup. But, after seeing India’s poor show with the ball in Asia Cup 2022, selectors might return to Shami ahead of the 20-20 World Cup. Even, former players have already batted for his inclusion before the Asia Cup only.
There are also reports that Avesh Khan might lose his place in the squad. He had a forgettable Asia Cup campaign with the ball. Harshal Patel and Jasprit Bumrah might also make a comeback after their recent injury setbacks. Selectors might make a decision regarding the inclusion of Ravi Bishnoi or Ravichandran Ashwin in the spinning department. Therefore, selectors might have to take some harsh and tough decisions to finalize India’s squad for the upcoming 20-20 World Cup.
