Ahead of this tournament, the Bangladesh Cricket Board decided to consider this veteran all-rounder as their captain in the shortest format of the game. However, Shakib Al Hasan failed completely to guide his country. Bangladesh lost both of their matches. Hence, they went out of the tournament.
As an individual player also, Shakib did not have a good tournament. In batting, he scored only 35 runs in two matches, at an average of 17.50. On the other hand, he grabbed only one wicket in two matches. Hence, he failed to perform also to help his country to get qualified for the next round.
