‘Aur kya expect kr skte hai Lord se’ – Fans react as Shardul Thakur takes magnificent catch to dismiss Rahmatullah Gurbaz in ODI World Cup 2023

In the 9th match of the ODI World Cup 2023, India locked horns with Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. After winning the toss, Afghanistan skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi opted to bat first. The decision looked perfect after considering the last match scores at this ground. However, Indian bowlers had some other plans.

Starting with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, India did well in the first powerplay. They gave up just 48 runs and took a wicket from Ibrahim Zadran. Zadran, in his innings, scored 22 runs off 28 balls with the help of four boundaries. However, after his departure, Afghani batters started building partnerships. Rahmatullah Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah added 31 runs for the second wicket. Their aggressive partnership needed to be broken, and then came a great catch from Shardul Thakur.

They stole the show with a fabulous catch at the boundary ropes, while birthday boy Hardik Pandya dismissed Gurbaz. Pandya delivered a quick, short delivery, which Gurbaz guided towards the boundary ropes. However, Shardul takes it on the first attempt, flicks the ball away as he’s about to overhaul the fence, and comes back in time to take it on the second attempt. Gurbaz, in his inning, scored 21 runs off 28 balls with the help of three fours and a six.

India makes a change in the second game of the CWC 2023

After beating Australia in a nail-biting thriller, India made a change in playing XI against Afghanistan. Skipper Rohit Sharma announced at the toss that the team has decided to go with two spinners, including Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur replaced Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI and made his debut in the World Cup.

It’s worth noting that India will face arch-rival Pakistan at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14. For the crucial game, India might need an extra pacer, so team management went with Shardul Thakur. Shardul also didn’t disappoint team management and clinched a wicket for Rahmat Shah. He trapped him in front of wickets and dismissed him for 16 runs. Afghanistan had lost three wickets for 114 runs.
