Afghanistan on Sunday beat by England by 69 runs to record their second win in World Cup history. The win on Sunday also was the first win for Afghanistan during the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. Young opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz found himself in trouble at the end of the game thanks to his actions on the field.

The loss on Sunday for England was the second in three games for the English side. The defending champions now face an uphill task as far as keeping their tournament hopes alive. England still has to face the likes of India, Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.

Afghanistan on the other hand will be getting ready for their next game against New Zealand. The game is to be played in Chennai on the 18th of October. The Kiwis like India have yet to lose a game in the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was reprimanded over his actions

Young Afghanistan opening batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz has received a wrap on his knuckles. The Apex Cricket Body isn’t happy with the behavior of the youngster during the game versus England in New Delhi on Sunday.

Gurbaz was batting on 80 when a miscommunication with captain Hashmatullah Shahidi cost him dear. The confusion in the middle meant that Rahmanullah Gurbaz was run out for 80.

The opener had given the Afghans a great start adding 114 runs for the opening wicket with Ibrahim Zadran. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was looking well set to score a century before his untimely dismissal. The TV Cameras spotted the youngster showing his anger as he smashed the boundary cushions and a stationary chair. This act did not sit down well with the Apex Cricket Body which gave a fair reprimand to the Afghan youngster.

A statement released read “Gurbaz was found to have breached article 2.2 of the Cricket Code of Conduct for players and player’s support personnel. Which relates to ‘Abuse of cricketing equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match,” Jeff Crowe, the former New Zealand international has given Gurbaz one demerit point for his actions. The statement concluded by saying “Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50% of a players match fee , and one or two demerit points”
