Australian Cricket Team dislodges India to move to top of Test rankings
Pat Cummins and his Australian side have continued their domination in cricket. According to the latest test rankings, the Australians have moved to the top of the table. Despite India’s win over South Africa, the latest rankings have seen Rohit Sharma’s team move to second.
England who are set to tour India in a few weeks are in third place. South Africa and New Zealand are in fourth and fifth place with Pakistan at number six. Shan Masood and his team are currently playing the final Test versus Australia in Sydney.
It is expected the table could see more changes before the end of the current cycle. West Indies are set to tour Australia for a two-match Test series. After the West Indies series, Australia will take on New Zealand in a Test Series.
Australia becomes new number 1 in Test Cricket –
India’s win over South Africa couldn’t deny the Australian Cricket Team from becoming the new Number 1 Test side. After winning the Test in Melbourne by 79 runs, Australia had sealed yet another Test series. Pat Cummins and his side are current World Test Championships holders after beating India in the final last year.
The Apex Cricket Body put out a statement that read “With India drawing their the two-Test series against South Africa 1-1 and Australia recording two wins in as many matches against Pakistan, the Pat Cummins-led side now top the Test rankings,”
Team India beat South Africa in the shortest-ever Test Match in Cape Town on Thursday. Only 107 overs were bowled during the game as the visiting side won with 7 wickets to spare.
Apex Cricket Body’s statement also read “It’s the latest feat in a year full of them for Australia, alongside their WTC victory and ODI World Cup triumph. The ongoing third Test between Australia and Pakistan and the upcoming five-match Test series between India and England will likely lead to further activity in the Test Team Rankings, with the top spot on the line alongside crucial. World Test Championship points”
As far as the World Test Championship table is concerned, India continues to lead the table. South Africa is number two while Australia are number four having played seven games already.
