Babar Azam delighted to break the jinx of beating India in World Events
After years of humiliation, Pakistan managed to beat India for the first time in world events as they picked up a comprehensive 10-wicket win in the 20-20 World Cup. It was not just any random victory but a win that will go down as one of Pakistan’s best wins over India. The team outplayed their arch-rivals in all departments and made a statement that this Babar Azam-led Pakistan is here to thump their authority.
Shaheen Shah Afridi set the tone with wickets upfront before the spinners tightened the screws in the middle overs. A combined effort from the unit meant that India had to settle for a below-par 151-7. However, given Pakistan’s record in chasing, Indian fans were optimistic about the team pulling things back. But little did they knew that this Pakistan team is not like the team of old, which will surrender to the pressure. Babar Azam along Mohammad Rizwan looked calm and composed at the crease and didn’t give Indian bowlers a sniff, taking the team to a comprehensive win.
The Pakistan skipper is delighted to have broken the jinx of beating India in world events and termed it as one of the defining moments of his career. “It is definitely a proud moment for me as well as for all my players that we have made history,” Babar News 18 quoted Babar.
“We realize how important and how much we needed that win is as everyone wanted us to win and to have made history is one of the defining moments in our careers,” added Babar.
Meanwhile, Pakistan now set their sights on New Zealand, which will be a big game for them. A win will place Pakistan in a good position to qualify for the semi-finals. More so, many fans and former cricketers from the country are seeing it as an opportunity to seek revenge for New Zealand’s withdrawal from Pakistan tour thus Azam and his men will be determined to do well in the match.
