Babar Azam gives savage reply to critics after Pakistan qualifies for 20-20 World Cup 2022 final
Pakistan captain Babar Azam and his team have seen the rollercoaster ride in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. Coming into the tournament, the skipper himself and wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan were the in-form batters, and the team was reliant on them. However, from their first game against India, things changed drastically as the duo struggled to score runs. Also, the biggest disaster for the team was losing to Zimbabwe.
After this, their elimination was inevitable. This led to criticism of the team and the opening pair – Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. Apparently, their strike rates in the shortest format of the game are always under the pump. Meanwhile, the team won their three games and had a stroke of luck before reaching the semis.
In the semifinal against New Zealand, Azam and Rizwan showed the world what they are capable of. After the win, Pakistan’s skipper spoke to the media and answered the critics.
We were waiting for our time: Babar Azam
During a chat with the media, the Lahore player was asked about the suggestion of him moving down the order. To which, the right-hander replied by saying that he and the team never thought that way. He added that the critics can now enjoy themselves.
“Mere khyaal se zehen me aisa kuch nahi tha. Ham apne waqt ka wait kar rahe the. Ye cricket hai, aap koshish karte hain ki aap har match me perform karein. Par ups and downs chalte rehte hain. Tanqeed sab hi karte hain, ham achha bhi karte hain toh vo karte hain. Ye jeet aap enjoy karein, Pakistan me jo aawam hai, aur jo yahan pe crowd tha, vo bhi enjoy karein, aur jo TV pe baithe hain, vo bhi enjoy karein.
(No, we didn’t think like that. We were just waiting for our time. You try to perform in every game but ups and downs are part of the game. Everybody criticises, even if we perform well. Now, just enjoy the win, Pakistan fans should enjoy this and those sitting in television channels should also do the same),” Babar said.
