‘Babar ke birthday par hi match rakhna tha kya’ – Fans react as Pakistan is set to visit India for 2023 ODI World Cup in India
The Asia Cup 2023 will probably take place somewhere in a neutral location rather than in Pakistan, which was intended to host the prestigious continental competition this year before the ODI World Cup in India.
However, India is sticking to its position that it would not travel to Pakistan. In response to India’s refusal to come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, there have been several media stories claiming that the Men in Green will not travel to India for the ODI World Cup, which will take place in October-November.
Later, it was revealed that the Pakistan Cricket Board had changed its mind and would only fly to India provided their World Cup matches were held at a neutral site or were only permitted at a few locations, with Kolkata and Chennai being the likely candidates.
Pakistan Cricket Board had asked Indian Cricket Board for a written assurance
According to a source close to GeoSuper.tv, the possibility of the Babar Azam-led team visiting India is more of a realistic expectation than a wish after Pakistan’s foreign minister said during the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in Goa that “sports should be kept separate from politics and foreign policy.”
Moreover, according to the source, Pakistan has its own concerns about playing in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium during the World Cup. “Pakistan may not agree to play against India at Narendra Modi Stadium due to certain reasons,” the source claimed. In spite of anxiously awaiting the release of the tournament’s schedule, the Apex Cricket Council has yet to provide an official declaration confirming Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup in India.
A source with knowledge of the recent developments reportedly rejected any claims that the PCB had asked the Indian Cricket Board for a written assurance that, should Pakistan travel to India for the World Cup, the Men in Blue would be required to play the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, which is scheduled to take place in 2025.
