Virat Kohli has never been shy in talking about his fondness for former India skipper MS Dhoni throughout the years. Former Indian captains Kohli and Dhoni became brothers at Team India and developed an unshakable bond during their remarkable cricket careers. While the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player is the face of Indian cricket, the four-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is led by the 41-year-old.

Dhoni only participates in the IPL now as he retired from international cricket in 2020. While giving an emotional speech in the Super Kings dressing room during the 2023 IPL, CSK captain Dhoni, the most experienced skipper of IPL history, recently pointed out Kohli. Recently, Mumbai Indians (MI) were defeated by former champions CSK in the reverse fixture of the El Clasico of the IPL 2023 on Saturday.

In the IPL 2023 in Chepauk, Dhoni’s CSK defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) while Kohli’s RCB lost to the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday, May 6. In an encouraging team talk during the Chennai Super Kings camp, Dhoni was seen giving Kohli a particular mention in a viral video that was uploaded on Twitter. “Virat doesn’t play the first ball like this. It is always here,” Dhoni was quoted as saying about Kohli’s batting style.

CSK to face DC next in IPL 2023

At the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, match number 49 of the IPL 2023 saw Dhoni’s CSK thrash Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians by six wickets. In appreciation of his bowling performance against MI, Matheesha Pathirana, who took three wickets and gave up 15 runs, was awarded Player of the Match.

Dhoni was full of praise for his teammate Pathirana in the post-match presentation after CSK’s victory over MI in the IPL fixture. Pathirana was advised by the CSK captain to stay away from red-ball cricket. “I personally think he is not someone who should play a lot of red-ball cricket,” Dhoni said.

Chennai Super Kings are currently in second position in the points table with 13 points i0n 11 matches they have played so far in the cash-rich league. They will be locking horns again team in form, Delhi Capitals next, on Wednesday, May 10 at the MA Chidambaram, in Chennai.
