In the 49th game of the ongoing IPL 2023, Chennai Super Kings played host to Mumbai Indians in the reverse fixture between both teams. In the previous game between both teams, the Yellow Army smacked MI in Mumbai last month. Meanwhile, ahead of the game, the Blue Brigade was coming off two back-to-back 200-run chases. On the other hand, CSK was coming off two back-to-back losses and a washed-out game.

Meanwhile, in this game, the home team won the toss and elected to bowl first. The decision proved right as Tushar Deshpande and Deepak Chahar combined for three wickets inside as many overs in the powerplay. The former took the wicket of Cameron Green while Chahar took out the likes of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan. At 14/3, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wadhera put together 55 runs.

After their partnership was broken, the latter was the only one who could score a fifty. With other batters failing, the team was restricted to 139/8. For the four-time winners, Chahar and Deshpande took two wickets each while Matheesha Pathirana took three and Ravindra Jadeja took one.

Chennai Super Kings thrashed Mumbai Indians for the second time in IPL 2023

In reply, the second successful IPL side got off to a great start as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway put together 46 runs in just four overs. It was pretty clear that the team wasn’t ready to let go of an opportunity to win and win handsomely. Gaikwad scored 30 off 16 balls including four fours and two sixes before getting out on a half-tracker from Piyush Chawla.

Ajinkya Rahane also played for his 21 before becoming the second victim of Chawla. On the other hand, Conway scored 44 off 42 balls while Shivam Dube took the initiative to close out the game. The latter scored 26 off 18 balls including three sixes. In the end, the team won the game by seven wickets and 2.2 overs to spare.
