The third T20I between India and West Indies got underway on Tuesday as Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited the West Indies team to bat first. The West Indies openers, Kyle Mayers and Brandon King came in to bat and occupied the crease well as they added 57 runs for the first wicket. India finally struck in the eight over and ended the opening stand as Hardik Pandya sent the hero of the last match, Brandon King, back to the pavilion.

Even after losing his partner, Mayers continued to hold one end and scored runs effortlessly as he kept finding the occasional boundaries. The other batters played second fiddle to well-set Mayers as he gradually built on his innings. The left-hander took the Indian bowlers to the cleaners, smashing eight fours and four sixes on his way to a brilliant 73 off just 50 balls.

He was finally dismissed on the score of 128 in the 16th over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Some fireworks at the end from Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell took the West Indies’ total to 164 runs for the loss of five wickets at the end of their 20 overs.

The Indian chase began in grand fashion as they continued with their new opening combination in Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. The openers started the chase with positive intent as they took the attack on the West Indian bowlers.

The Indian captain was looking in fine touch as he smashed a four and a six in his first five balls of the innings. Unfortunately, the opener couldn’t continue his innings as he got retired hurt after pulling a muscle in his short stay at the crease.

Shreyas Iyer walked in next to join Yadav at the crease who was enjoying his stay in the middle as he started his innings with two boundaries in the first over. In no time, Yadav pressed the accelerator, putting his flamboyant stroke play on display.

The batter was having a field day as he played some stupendous shots one after the other. Iyer was struggling at the other end even as Yadav wreaked havoc with the bat. Iyer’s struggle finally ended after he was dismissed for 24 off 27 balls at the score of 105. After Iyer’s dismissal, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant walked into bat and wasted no time to settle. He announced his arrival by smashing a four and a six.

Yadav continued his dream knock from the other end and looked like he was going to score his second hundred in the format but his innings was ended after he was dismissed by Dominic Drakes in the 15th over. There wasn’t much left in the game as India required only 30 more runs to win at less than run-a-ball. India, eventually, won the match by seven wickets with an over to spare. Rishabh Pant and Deepak Hooda remaining unbeaten at the crease on 33 and 10 respectively.
