Bangalore and Mumbai faced off against each other in the fourth game of the Women’s T20 League  2023 on Monday. Bangalore played yesterday and lost in a one-sided battle while Mumbai played the first game of the tournament and won by a convincing margin against Gujarat.

Bangalore won the all-important toss and chose to bat first. Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine were getting boundaries for fun in the first four overs but the tide changed in favour of Mumbai as four wickets fell in the next two overs and there was tension for the Bangalore franchise, once again.

Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh combined at the crease and used their game sense effectively. Perry, however, gave away her wicket cheaply after a brilliant run-out from Humaira Kazi. Wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals for Bangalore and that made sure they only reached an average total of 155.

How did the second innings pan out?

Bangalore bowlers didn’t do any favours to the batters as the Mumbai openers were able to score freely. They did get a wicket during the powerplay stages but Natalie Sciver-Brunt joined forces with Hayley Matthews to continue the team’s stride forward.

The duo looked in fine touch and completed their hundred run partnership off just 48 balls. This was the kind of partnership Bangalore was searching for, throughout their first innings. Hayley Matthews was the standout batter as she finished the game with a strike rate of over 200. Her partner, Natalie Sciver-Brunt also completed her fifty as she hit nine boundaries and one six.

Mumbai won the game by nine wickets with 34 balls to spare. This win also boosts the Mumbai team’s net run rate which might be pivotal at the later stages of the tournament. Bangalore lose their second game in two days and need some time to think about what has gone wrong in their approach and the team which is full of stars.

Here’s how fans reacted to another big loss for the Bangalore franchise:
