BCCI to unveil two new IPL teams on October 25 – Reports
The Board of Control for Cricket in Inida (BCCI) are likely to unveil the two new IPL teams on October 25. For the unversed, the IPL 2022 is set to be a 10-team event. In a major development, it was revealed that the Glazer family, owners of Manchester United has shown interest in bidding for one of the two teams. “Well yes, it is true that they have shown interest and that may be one of the reasons why the dateline was extended by the BCCI. IPL is not just restricted to India, it is a global entity now,” the source pointed out according to My Khel.
Apart from the Glazer family, Bollywood star couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone along with Sanjay Goenka have also shown interest in buying the new IPL franchises. The BCCI are keen on bringing out the new teams from the north zone, with Lucknow and Ahmedabad two potential cities.
Talking about IPL 2022, the BCCI is likely to allow teams to retain a maximum of 4 players. They can either opt for two overseas players or three Indian players, with the total numbers of retention not exceeding 4. Also, the teams will have a player purse of 90 crores for IPL 2022, which will be further increased to 95 crores and 100 crores in the subsequent two seasons. If a franchise opts to retain players, they will have to spend 40-45 per cent of their purse and will be left with 35-40 crore less purse for the mega auction than the franchise that opts not to retain players.
