‘Bhai kitne saal aur aisa khelega’ – Fans react as Andre Russell take Montreal Tigers to Global T20 Canada 2023 title against Surrey Jaguars
Montreal Tigers locked horns with Surrey Jaguars in the final of the Global T20 Canada 2023 on Sunday, August 6 at the CAA Centre, Brampton, in Ontario. Sherfane Rutherford was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant match-winning performance. He played an unbeaten knock of 38 runs off 29 balls with three four and two sixes in his innings.
If we talk about the match, Montreal Tigers skipper, Chris Lynn won the toss and elected to bowl first. Surrey Jaguars while batting first were able to score only 130 runs with the loss of five wickets after the completion of the first innings. The highest scorer for the side was Jatinder Singh who played an unbeaten knock of 56 runs from 57 balls which included three fours in his innings.

The pick of the bowler for Montreal was Aayan Khan who snapped two wickets in his spell of four overs where he conceded 21 runs in his spell. One wicket each was grabbed by Carlos Braithwaite, Abbas Afridi, and Andre Russell who conceded 33 runs, 31 runs, and 24 runs respectively in their spell of four overs.
The Tigers chased down the target of 131 runs on the last ball of the 20th over. Except Rutherford, Lynn scored crucial 31 runs off 35 balls with three fours and a six in his innings. In the end, star West Indian all-rounder, Russell finished off the game as he played a quickfire knock of 20 runs from just six balls which included one four and two sixes in his innings.
The pick of the bowler for the Surrey side was Pakistan all-rounder, Iftikhar Ahmed who bagged took wickets in his spell of four overs where he conceded just eight runs in his spell. “I hope everyone in Canada was watching that because that’s what we’re about, that’s why we’re here, to entertain and put on a show. That’s why they’re here; they’re big-game players,” Lynn was quoted as saying on Rutherford and Russell.
