‘Boom Boom ki yad taaza kar di’ – Twitter remembers Shahid Afridi after Shaheen hits last ball six to tie a thriller
Twitter went crazy after Lahore Qalandars skipper Shaheen Afridi displayed his batting skills during Pakistan Super League. In the last league game of the tournament, Afridi hit 22 runs against Peshawar Zalmi to tie the game. However, he could not prevent his side from losing the game in the Super Over. Batting first, the 2020 finalists scored only five runs in the Super Over. In reply, Shoaib Malik hit two back-to-back fours against Afridi to win the game.
However, the left-hander’s innings of unbeaten 39 runs off 20 balls kept the fans stuck to the television sets. He hit two fours and four sixes after he came out to bat at the score of 94/6. He and Mohammad Hafeez (49) stitched a partnership of 35 runs before the latter was caught by Mohammad Haris. Two balls later, Haris Rauf was dismissed by opposition skipper Wahab Riaz.
The team score was 135/8 runs after 19 overs, needing another 24 runs to win. The skipper hit 16 runs in the first three balls and got one extra run due to a wide delivery. His side needed seven runs of three balls which looked easy to get. However, opposition pacer Mohammad Umar bowled two dots to push the equation to 7 off 1 ball. The 21-year-old hit a six to level the score at the end of the game.
Talking about the main game, the Yellow brigade won the toss and elected to bat first. They amassed 158/7, with useful contributions from Shoaib Malik (32) and Khalid Usman (19 off 11). Hazratullah Zazai (20) and Haider Ali (25) got starts but couldn’t convert into a big total. In reply, apart from Mohammad Hafeez and Shaheen Afridi, no one could contribute enough to chase down the target. Only Kamran Ghulam (25) could cross the 20-run mark other than Hafeez and Afridi. Meanwhile, Twitter remembered Shahid Afridi after Shaheen’s heroics.

Unbelievable! Shaheen Afridi takes 23 runs off the last over to take the game to Super Over. Do we have a new Boom Boom Afridi?
