Ruturaj Gaikwad couldn’t make his international debut in the last game of India’s tour of South Africa. He was expected to make his debut as India have already lost the three-match ODI series. The game provided an opportunity for the team management to test the youngster. Players like Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar, Jayant Yadav and Prasidh Krishna were included in the XI but Gaikwad still continued to warm the bench.

Gaikwad had a tremendous time with the bat last year. He won the Orange Cap in the Indian T2T League (IPL) 2021 after scoring 635 runs for Chennai. He carried his form in Vijay Hazare Trophy and made 603 runs in just five games at a Bradmansque average of 150.75, with four hundreds.

He was named in the ODI squad for the tour of South Africa after his performances in domestic cricket. However, he will have to return without playing a game.

Meanwhile, the Twitteratis were not amused by Gaikwad’s omission and slammed the management for their behaviour towards the management. A few also trolled KL Rahul and said that he doesn’t want to give up his opening slot. Meanwhile, coach Rahul Dravid was also on the receiving end of the fans.
