Three Players who can replace Hardik Pandya as captain for upcoming Afghanistan’s tour of India 2024

The Afghanistan cricket team is once again gearing up to visit India first thing in January 2024. The teams will lock horns for a 3-match T20 series in Mohali, Indore and Bengaluru as they look forward to preparing for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, which will be conducted in the US and West Indies. Even though the India squad has a strong squad they currently lag in the absence of a leader. 

India’s T20 captain Hardik Pandya has still not recovered from the injury he incurred during the ODI World Cup 2023 and the team is looking forward to having a new captain for the shorter format. The team’s interim captain Suryakumar Yadav has also been suffering from a recent injury, incurred during the last T20 match against South Africa, leaving the team in a dilemma.

1 KL Rahul

In the absence of Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul is one of the top candidates to lead the India squad against Afghanistan considering his Valuable experience of guiding the squad in the shortest format of the game, previously for India as well as in the IPL. 

2 Jasprit Bumrah 

Jasprit Bumrah had a good experience in leading the national side against Ireland in his comeback white ball cricket series. With good analytical knowledge of the game and the format, Jasprit Bumrah could be a prospective candidate for captaincy to lead the Indian squad against Afghanistan. 

3 Ruturaj Gaikwad 

India’s young opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad can also run in the race to lead the Indian squad against Afghanistan.  After bringing the gold medal for the country nation games 2023 Gaikwad will have a good experience of captaincy and leading the young squad across three venues in the country.
