BREAKING: India announce squad for ODI World Cup 2023
The cricket team of India has announced the much-awaited squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. Star players like Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul are back in the squad for the tournament after recovering from their injuries. The chairman of the Apex Cricket Board of India, Ajit Agarkar, last week fled to Sri Lanka, where the Indian side is currently contesting the Asia Cup 2023. Agarkar met with the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid to finalize the squad.
It is pertinent to mention the announcement for the provincial squad for the World Cup 2023, starting on October 5 and ending on September 5, while the teams can make changes to their squad by September 28. Virat Kohli is the only player present from the Men in Blue’s successful triumph in the 2011 World Cup. Now cut to 2023, when the Indian side is again playing the World Cup in India, so the hype for the upcoming event is loud, and fans want the Rohit Sharma-led side to repeat the successful voyage once again as they did in their home conditions in 2011.
Will Gabbar be back?
This is the first time India will be hosting the ODI World Cup solely in the 13th edition of the tournament; it is scheduled to take place from October 5 to November 19, 2023. Earlier, it was scheduled to take place from February to March 2023 but was later postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the end, the Indian side is playing the Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka. In their opening game, they scored 266/10 in 50 overs with the help of superb innings by Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya, but the match got washed away due to rain without the ball bowled in the second innings.
Shikhar Dhawan aka Gabbar has been a consistent leading run-getter for India in international matches. Yet, it seems the team is now considering other options. Shubman Gill’s remarkable scoring streak and Ishan Kishan’s 200-run inning against Bangladesh have overshadowed Dhawan’s role, making his spot on the team increasingly uncertain.
In the second game against Nepal, the Asia Giants won the game by 10 wickets while chasing a target of 231. After this win, India is through to the Super 4 round, as Nepal got eliminated. Now for the knockout fixture in the continental championship, India vs Pakistan on September 10 in Colombo. Speaking of the World Cup this year, India will be playing their first game against Australia on October 8 in Chennai. The opening game of the tournament will be between defending champion England and the runner-ups of the last edition, New Zealand, in Ahmedabad.
