Check out how India can take “Double Revenge” over South Africa in the second T20I

Team India blew their chance of creating a world record of winning 13 T20I matches on the trot when they lost their first T20I match of the home series against South Africa. Despite posting a huge total on the board, the South African batters smashed the Indian bowlers all over the park to chase the target of 212 runs in 19.1 overs only.

Now, India are scheduled to take on the Proteas in the second T20I match on Sunday, 12 June, at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. However, India has a unique opportunity to take double revenge over the Proteas if they defeat them in that fixture.

Revenge of the first T20I loss

Definitely, India will look to take revenge for the first T20I loss of this series by winning this next one. It will also help them in equalizing the series, with three more games to go after that.

Speaking about that first match, India posted a total of 211 runs by losing four wickets in 20 overs. Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya were the stars of that innings as they spoiled the party for the South African bowlers.

In reply, despite losing some quick wickets, Rassie Van der Dussen and David Miller stitched an unbeaten partnership of 100+ runs to seal the deal for the visitors. David Miller was the player of the match for his unbeaten knock of 64 runs off 31 balls at a strike rate of 206.45.

Revenge of the 2015 humiliation in Cuttack

During the South Africa tour to India in 2015, the second match of that year’s T20I series was placed at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. In that match, India got bundled out for 92 runs only while batting first.

South Africa’s Albie Morkel, Imran Tahir, and Chris Morris ran riot as India got bamboozled in that match. The Proteas chased that small target in 17.1 overs with six wickets to spare. Hence, by winning the next T20I in Cuttack, India can take revenge for that humiliating loss in 2015 against the same opposition.
