The ODI World Cup 2023 is just about to Conclude and is currently at the climax stage with the knockout games. India and New Zealand met for the first semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2023 at The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and India defeated New Zealand by 17 runs to qualify for the finals of the world’s biggest cricket league. 

On the other hand South Africa and Australia are currently locking horns for the second semi-final match of the tournament at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, and the winner of the game will meet India for the finals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 19 November. 

The games in the tournament have seen multiple ups and downs, with low scores, high scores, impossible run chases and spectacular target defence, and from stellar player performances to overall team efforts. The 50 over one-day international cricket format of the game has registered some of the Incredibles in the power play. 

Let’s look at one of the lowest aggregate team total scores in the power play in the ODI World Cup 202

1. Sri Lanka vs India, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, 2 November 14 runs

India and Sri Lanka met for the 33rd match of the league stage of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 2 November. Sri Lanka opted to bowl while India’s star batting lineup gave them a target of 358 runs as Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer scored 92, 88, 82 runs respectively. 

Sri Lanka’s batting lineup miserably failed to chase the high target and could only manage to score 14 runs in the power with the loss of 6 wickets! The six wickets included all the major batters of the team. With only bowling options left for the team to chase the huge target, India dismissed Sri Lanka for 50 runs at the end of 19. Four overs and won the game by 302 runs. 

2.  South Africa vs Australia, Eden Gardens, Kolkata, 16 November, 18 runs

In the second semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2023, South Africa chose to bat first considering the cloudy conditions prevailing in the city where the game is being conducted with the plans of giving a huge target to Australia with DLS in mind. However, Australia had come well prepared to dismiss the South African bowling attack for low runs. 

Meeting Australia for the third time in the knockout matches of the ODI World Cup, the South African batting lineup began to collapse as they could only manage to score 18 runs in the power play with the loss of two wickets of their opening batsmen Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock. 

3.  Netherlands vs England, Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune, 8 November, 23 runs

Netherlands and England met for the 40th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on 8 November. England opted to bat and registered a score of 339 runs as their star all-rounder Ben Stokes and opening batsman Dawid Milan scored 108 and 87 runs respectively. 

The Netherlands batting order began to lose its grip on the game and could manage to score only 23 runs with the loss of two wickets at the end of the power play. Netherlands gradually failed to chase the high target and fell short by 160 runs and England won the game.
