Chennai, Kolkata to clash in Indian T20 League 2022 opener
The BCCI this week confirmed that the 15th season will start from March 26. The groups matches have been allotted to three stadiums of Maharashtra i.e Wankhede, D.Y. Patil, and Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) stadium. Teams have been divided into two groups i.e Group A and B. Teams such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Lucknow are in the Group A. On the other hand, teams such as Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Punjab, and Gujarat are in the other group.
The format of the tournament will see each team facing other teams of same group and the team on the same row of other group twice, while playing the remaining four teams of other group once. Kolkata from Group A will play the defending champions Chennai from Group B.
Both sides were the finalists last season. The MS Dhoni-led side beat the Eoin Morgan-led side by 27 runs to clinch their fourth title. As far as the spectators are concerned, 25 percent of the stadium capacity will be filled with the fans in the initial games. On the other hand, this allowances can be increased later if all goes well.
The last two seasons have been played in UAE fully or partially due to COVID-19 and BCCI is keen to stage the tournament without any hindrance in India this time around.
