Deepak Chahar is gearing up to make a comeback in Indian colours in the upcoming three ODIs against Zimbabwe. The series is going to start on 18 August 2022. However, he missed several cricketing actions for India in recent times due to injury. Deepak also missed the last edition of the Indian T20 League for his Chennai franchise.

Meanwhile, he has successfully recovered from quadriceps and back injuries. Now, he opened up on MS Dhoni’s impact on his career from his Chennai days. Deepak Chahar also shared a valuable piece of advice that MS Dhoni gave to him that changed his career.

“Mahi Bhai has given me a lot of advice. The best advice was to believe in myself.” – Deepak Chahar

Speaking in a recent interview, Chahar said that Dhoni’s advice has always given him the belief and confidence to do well. He said: “Mahi Bhai has given me a lot of advice. The best advice was to believe in myself. When I first played for Chennai, the amount of confidence he gave me was reflected in my performance.”

Deepak also shared that Dhoni’s confidence in him changed his career. “He’s the number one captain. If he believes in you, you have to believe in yourself. The belief I got from playing for Chennai was massive. That changed my career. The belief and confidence Mahi Bhai gave me were the best.” Chahar added.

However, speaking to News24, Deepak Chahar said that he could have returned in the ongoing series against West Indies. “If I wanted, I could have made a comeback 2-3 weeks ago only. I could have played the T20 series against West Indies. But then, my thought process was that whenever you play, you give your 110 percent. Don’t even play at 99 percent. I believe I should be able to perform better than the time before I got injured. But I have always believed that whenever you get injured, it gives you time to get back to basics.” Chahar concluded.
