Chennai’s star player to miss out on entire Indian T20 League 2022
Chennai bought the star Indian pacer Deepak Chahar for a hefty price of INR 14 Cr. He was an integral part of Chennai’s plan for the season. But just ahead of the 15th Indian T20 League 2022, Chahar picked up an injury on his right quadriceps against West Indies. He was expected to return to Chennai by mid-April.
But in a piece of recent news surprising the Chennai fans, the star medium pace bowler is not likely to return to cricketing action soon. He has picked up a back injury during his rehabilitation at NCA, Bengaluru. This has raised a big question about Chahar’s availability for Chennai in the current season of the ITL. The intensity of his injury and the recovery time has not yet been formally reported by BCCI, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
Meanwhile, Chennai is missing Chahar in Indian T20 League big time. He was Chennai’s prime weapon to pick up wickets in the powerplay overs. The same kind of potency is missing from Chennai’s bowling in absence of the medium pacer. As a result, the team is often putting themselves under great pressure in the death overs. Notably, Chennai has lost all four of their matches in the tournament so far.
The current situation in which Chennai find themselves in the tournament has tested their bench strength. They have tried hard to find a replacement for Chahar, giving chances to young bowlers like Mukesh Choudhary and Tushar Deshpande, who have failed to fill the shoes of Chahar. If Chahar misses the tournament, the men in yellow will look at some of their other options in Rajvardhan Hangrekar and KM Asif. Fans will be keenly keeping an eye on the development of Chahar and also on how Chennai sort out their woes in his absence.
