Cricket West Indies (CWI) commit to gender pay equity among players
The West Indies cricket team is one of the most decorated teams in the cricketing world which has given us some great players. The team was known for their champion players, who have given us some great performances. Every cricket fan knows the likes of Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard, who were one of the biggest superstars on the Caribbean side. The team has also won two ODI World Cups and 2 T20 World Cups being one of the most popular teams in cricket history. The legacy of the team has been shared across the world from being one of the best teams in the world to being a nation full of T20 superstars.
The form of the West Indies team so far has been disappointing, where they have failed to win series and did not feature in the World for the first time in 2023. The T20 World Cup will be happening in their home ground and this will be the chance for Calypso giants to finally give something to the fans with the T20 powerhouses they have in their ranks. These might not be great times for the team so far, but they will be confident to play in conditions they are familiar with and get back into the top ranks once again.
The board takes great initiative going forward
There have been a lot of steps taken by the other cricket boards around for the future of the game of cricket. Gender pay equity is one of the steps taken by all the boards so that every cricketer gets a fair raise while playing international cricket. This is a step taken by cricket boards in India, Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand regarding player remuneration and updated conditions. Cricket West Indies (CWI) have also committed to this deal wanting their players to have the same recognition and opportunities in the future.
President of the CWI Kishore Shallow also showed his appreciation towards this change saying “”This is a historic day for West Indies cricket…we are taking a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and progressive cricket framework.” Shallow was quoted as saying by the Times of India. This proves that the West Indies are making some progressive changes which are great to see by every cricket fan in the Caribbean. The hope for a new and progressive plan for the West Indies cricket team is needed and will be appreciated by everyone in the cricketing fraternity.
