David Warner is one of the rare players who transformed himself into all formats players after starting as T20 specialist. Many years back, he was told by Virender Sehwag that he can become a good Test player. After having a tough debut, the left-hander, Warner has become one of the most successful opening batters in world cricket. However, his record in the Indian sub-continent is abysmal.

In 20 Tests in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, he averages 33.52 with 1274 runs to his name. The two-time World Cup winner’s average was poorer before the Pakistan tour in March last year. In the three-match Test series, the opening batter amassed 169 runs with two fifties. Meanwhile, Warner was speaking about his experiences as a batter in the subcontinent till 2017 in ‘The Test’ season two.

In 2016 and 2017, Australia toured Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh respectively. These games turned out to be a nightmare for him as it was his Test against spin. In all these tours, David failed to combat the quality spin on dry wickets.

One game to go and never again touring the subcontinent: David Warner

In the documentary, the New South Wales player started by saying that he has mixed memories as a batter in Asia.

“Some good memories and some not-so-good memories. It’s got a lot of good positive affirmations that I stand by every day,” he said in the video.

However, when the camera snaps of the player’s diary said otherwise. It reads “I am done. 1 game to go and never again touring subcontinent. Too much stress on my mind that I don’t need.”

“Memories were horrible. I was getting beaten both sides of the bat with the spinning ball,” he recalled.

Notably, in the same year, he won the Orange Cap for the second time in his Indian T20 League career. The then Hyderabad skipper in the tournament, he scored most runs in the tournament with more than 600 runs to his name.
