‘DC should also play Shane Watson’ – Former India bowler’s bold statement on Delhi Capitals after their poor performance in IPL 2023
Despite winning two matches in a row, Delhi Capitals’ batting struggle continued as openers David Warner and Phil Salt failed to make an impression. Warner was only able to score 21 runs off of 20 balls while hitting two fours and a six. For the hosts, Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled Salt out for a golden duck in the first over. DC was able to reach 144/9 in 20 overs thanks to a late comeback from Manish Pandey and Axar Patel. With two fours, Pandey smashed 34 runs off of 27 balls. Axar, meanwhile, scored 34 runs off of 34 balls while hitting four fours. Washington Sundar, on the other hand, grabbed three wickets for SRH, while Bhuvneshwar bagged two wickets.
Chasing a target of 145 runs, SRH were able to score only 137/6 in 20 overs, with two wickets apiece for DC’s Axar and Anrich Nortje. For SRH, Mayank Agarwal displayed a strong batting performance, scoring 49 runs off 39 balls. As Delhi went on to win by seven runs, Heinrich Klaasen produced quickfire innings of 31 runs off 19 balls.
They played really well and took the total to 144: Harbhajan Singh
DC must be concerned about Prithvi Shaw, who has been dropped from the starting XI, in addition to their poor batting performance in the last game. Former India off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh gave Sportskeeda a humorous analysis of Delhi’s batting issues and a fairly hilarious solution. “I’m saying that DC should also play Shane Watson, he recently retired, and the way with which DC’s opening is going these days, he will be of use, and a better choice as well,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying on Sportskeeda
He criticised Delhi, but he also applauded Axar and Pandey for their role in the team’s late comeback in the first innings. “It seemed as if DC scored 25-30 runs less in the first innings on this pitch. The DC batters did not contribute much, the recovery from 62-5 was incredible from Axar Patel and Manish Pandey”, the Chennai Super Kings spinner asserted.
“Credit to Axar Patel and Manish Pandey, they played really well and took the total to 144. DC might have thought that they can defend this, but they knew they will have to bowl really well. Ishant Sharma bowled a great spell upfront and Harry Brook’s bat has not been talking since that hundred”, the 42-year-old stated.
