Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) registered a huge 56-run victory over Punjab Kings at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali after putting up the second-highest team total in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Batting first in match, LSG posted a mammoth total of 257 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. In reply, PBKS were bowled out after scoring 201 runs in 19.5 overs.

LSG had a flying start as the skipper KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers added 41 runs for the first wicket in 3.2 overs. Rahul got out cheaply after scoring just 12 runs off 9 balls. After that, Mayers smashed 54 runs off just 24 balls hitting seven fours and four sixes, before getting out in the sixth over. After Mayers’ dismissal, Ayush Badoni and Marcus Stoinis took charge in the middle overs by putting up a partnership of 86 runs for the third wicket. Badoni got out after scoring 43 off 24 with three fours and three sixes.

After that Stoinis added another 103 runs with Nicholas Pooran for the fifth wicket. Stoinis got out after 72 runs off 40 balls hitting six fours and five sixes. While Pooran got out after smashing 45 off just 19 balls hitting seven fours and a maximum. Krunal Pandya and Deepak Hooda added the finishing touches as LSG go past 250 runs. For PBKS, Kagiso Rabada took 2 wickets, while, Arshdeep Singh, Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone shared a wicket each.

PBKS had a poor start chasing a big total

Chasing the winning total, PBKS had a disastrous start as they lost the skipper Shikhar Dhawan in the very first over. A couple of overs later, Prabhsimran Singh also got out after scoring just 9 runs. After that, Atharva Taide and Sikandar Raza put up a partnership of 88 runs for the third wicket. Raza got out after scoring 36 off 22 with four fours and a maximum. While Taide scored 66 runs off 36 balls hitting eight fours and two sixes.

After Taide’s dismissal, PBKS kept losing wickets at regular intervals, However, Jitesh Sharma tried hard to take his team odeon the line by 24 runs off just 10 balls but got out in the 18th over. PBKS got bowled out with one delivery left to finish the game. For LSG, Yash Thakur took 4 wickets, Naveen-ul-Haq scalped 3, while Ravi Bishnoi ended up taking 2 wickets and Stoinis put 1 in his bag.
