‘Delhi ka naam roshan karo’ – Fans react as DC register their first win of WPL 2024, beat UP Warriorz by 9 wickets
The Delhi Capitals have defeated the Uttar Pradesh Warrioz by nine wickets in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL). Skipper Meg Lanning and Shefali Verma’s terrific knocks helped DC clinch their first win of the season. This was a much-needed victory for the Capitals after losing a close game against the Mumbai Indians. As they won the game by nine wickets, it shows how strong the batting line-up is. Moreover, the Uttar Pradesh Warriorz failed as a team in all the departments.
On winning the toss, DC chose to field first. Putting the Warriorz to bat first was a great decision by DC as the team managed to score just 119 runs. The entire batting line-up collapsed with only Shweta Sherawat scoring 45 runs off 42 balls. Her innings included five boundaries and one six. Meanwhile, the DC bowlers had a great day as Marizzane Kapp took three wickets at an economy of 1.25. Along with her, Radha Yadav got four crucial wickets for the team.
When DC came to bat, they had 120 runs to chase. However, to everyone’s surprise, the opening batters, Lanning (51) and Verma (64) scored two brilliant half-centuries which helped them get their first victory. After Lanning’s dismissal, Jemimah Rodrigues scored the winning runs for the team. For an outstanding bowling spell, Marizanne Kapp was awarded the Player of the Match.

That’s not good from Lanning. Should have asked Safali to go berserk.
