‘Devon Conway is unstoppable’: Conway shows amazing consistency, scores three consecutive half-centuries
Chennai is taking on Delhi in the 55th match of the Indian T20 League 2022. The match is being played at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The pitch reportedly will favor the batters and that is what the fans witnessed at least during the first innings of the match.
Rishabh Pant won the toss and invited Chennai to bat first in the match. The Chennai openers made the most of the perfect batting conditions and took on the Delhi bowlers from the very beginning. The du0 scored 57 runs in the powerplays and gave a great launching pad for the batters to come in the latter half of the innings. While Ruturaj Gaikwad was playing a second fiddle, it was Devon Conway who was bringing down hell on the opposition bowlers.
He was particularly brutal against Kuldeep Yadav and made the best use of the shorter side of the ground. The Kiwi southpaw completed his half-century off just 27 deliveries. This was the third consecutive half-century for the batter after his return back to the playing eleven. Meanwhile, the partnership reached the 100 runs mark and the Delhi bowlers were not finding any respite.
However, Ruturaj’s stay in the middle was cut short by Anrich Nortje in the 11th over of the innings. The opening partnership accounted for 110 runs and the scoring rate was around 10 runs per over. Even after Gaikwad’s dismissal, Conway continued his antics amassing the Delhi bowlers. With the dismissal of Gaikwad, Conway lost a bit of momentum in his knock.
Not being able to dominate the strike he got adventurous and attempted scoop over fine leg. It did not come off and Rishabh Pant caught him off Khaleel Ahmed. However, before walking back he scored 87 runs off 49 deliveries and set the platform for his team. When he was dismissed Chennai was 169 for 2 from 16.3 overs and were well on course for a big total.
Here is how Twitter reacted on Devon Conway’s brilliant knock.
