In a much-awaited showdown, India and Bangladesh were poised to face each other in the 17th match of the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 at the iconic MCA Stadium in Pune on October 19. This match in the World Cup 2023 not only revived the enduring rivalry between the nations. But also signified a noteworthy event as this was the first one-day international clash in 25 years since 1998 on Indian soil. But the match eventually turned out to be a one-sided affair as India won the match by seven wickets. With this win Indian juggernaut marches on, winning four in four.

After having won the toss, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto chose to bat first. Indian seamers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj initiated a promising start for their team, allowing only six runs in the initial four overs of the innings. But once Kuldeep Yadav took the first wicket for India in the 15th over, sparking a series of dismissals for Bangladesh. The Indian fielding, notably wicketkeeper KL Rahul, demonstrated excellence, with a remarkable catch to dismiss Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja further contributed by dismissing Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hasan Shanto, respectively.

The only silver lining for the Bangladesh batting was Tanzid Hasan (51) and Litton Das (66) provided a strong start with a 93-run opening partnership. In addition to it, Mahmudullah’s (46 runs off 36 balls) cameo at the death was incredible. It was because of this innings, that Bangladesh reached a total of 256 runs.

India’s juggernaut continues to march with four wins out of four matches

Chasing a target of 257 runs, India’s openers, Rohit Sharma and Gill, adopted an aggressive approach. Rohit, often the aggressor in the tournament, took on the opposition’s new ball bowlers with counter-attacking shots. Gill also showcased glimpses of his excellent form. After Rohit’s dismissal for a quick 48 off 40 deliveries, Gill formed a crucial partnership with Virat Kohli. Despite Gill reaching his maiden half-century and attempting to increase the scoring rate, he was eventually dismissed.

But once Gill was dismissed Shreyas Iyer along with Kohli stitched a valuable partnership of 46 runs. However, Iyer, trying to clear the rope was held out at mid-wicket off the bowling of Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Once, Iyer was dismissed KL Rahul and the former India skipper ensured that India chased down the total without further hiccups. Especially, Virat Kohli was sensational throughout the innings and also reached a milestone of 48 ODI centuries with a brilliant 103 runs off just 97 deliveries. This is also the first century for Virat Kohli in successful run chases in the history of World Cups.

Let us look at how Twitter has reacted to his terrific run chase from the Indian team:
