Dinesh Karthik hints at retirement from international cricket in cryptic way
India wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik has hinted at his retirement from international cricket. In a cryptic post on Instagram, the two-time World Championship winner thanked his teammates, coaches, friends, and fans. The right-hander made his comeback in the Indian team in June for the five-match T20I series against South Africa at home. He was rewarded for his batting returns during the Indian T20 League 2022.
Since then, he was a designated finisher for the Men In Blue in T20Is. He played his last in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Notably, the Tamil Nadu player failed to carry his form with the bat during the tournament. After four games, he was replaced by Rishabh Pant. Currently, he has been rested for India’s ongoing tour of New Zealand.
Meanwhile, on November 23, the 37-year-old posted a cryptic message on Instagram, hinting towards his retirement.
“Worked hard towards the goal of playing the 20-20 World Cup for India and it was such a proud feeling to do so… we did fall short of the ultimate motive, but it did fill my life with many memories to cherish. Thank you to all my fellow players, coaches, friends and most importantly the fans for the undying support,” wrote Karthik on social media.

Dinesh Karthik is available but we want to try new players: Chetan Sharma
Before being sacked, former Indian cricket board chief selector Chetan Sharma spoke about Karthik’s future. The former said that the wicketkeeper batter is available for selection but they wanted to try new players.
“The World Cup is going to finish in some days and so we need to decide whom to rest or not. He (Karthik) has been performing and he is available to us. But this time we just thought of trying a different set of players after the World Cup,” now sacked chairman of selectors Sharma had said.
