Does KL Rahul’s England series also come to an end after his injury?

Team India is scheduled to take on South Africa in a home T20I series, starting on 9 June 2022. As big names like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested, KL Rahul was given the responsibility to lead the side. But, he got ruled out of the series on 8 June due to a groin injury.

It was devastating news for KL Rahul as he missed the opportunity to lead his side at home for the first time. He also shared his disappointment on Twitter by stating “gutted and hurt”. Now, Rishabh Pant has been named the captain of the side along with Hardik Pandya as his deputy.

“Hard to accept but I begin another challenge today.” – KL Rahul wrote

In the post, he wrote that he is gutted to miss the chance of leading his country at home. But he also sent huge support to Rishabh Pant and his boys. He wrote: “Hard to accept but I begin another challenge today. Gutted not to be leading the side for the first time at home, but the boys have all my support from the sidelines.”

KL Rahul will now report to the National Cricket Academy as NCA medical team will assess his injury. After that, future proceedings will be determined. However, Groin injuries normally take 3-4 weeks to heal depending on the seriousness. It can cast a doubt on his chances on the flight for the England tour.

Speaking to InsideSport, a senior official of the Indian Cricket Board said that they will have a chat with the physios regarding the injury. “Injury is part and parcel of a player’s life and it can happen to anyone. It’s about taking care of one’s self to reduce the number of injuries. It’s definitely concerning when an important player like KL gets injured frequently. Once he is at the NCA, we will have a chat with physios,” he concluded.

This is the fourth time in the last seven months that KL Rahul sustained an injury. It also cost him four series as well and such regular injuries are making doubt on considering him as a potential choice for Indian captaincy going forward.

Team India is scheduled to start their tour to England from June 24 to 17 July including a four-day warm-up match, one Test match, three T20Is, and three ODIs.
