Delhi Capitals finally registered their first victory in IPL 2023 after five consecutive losses by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 4 wickets in match number 28 of the season at the Arun Jaitley stadium. Batting first, KKR were bowled out for 127 runs in 20 overs. In reply DC took 19.2 overs and lost 6 wickets to chase 128 runs.

KKR lost the first wicket in the form of Litton Das who ended up giving a catch to Lalit Yadav in the last ball of the second by Mukesh Kumar. An over later, KKR got another blow as Venkatesh Iyer, who scored a century in the last game against Mumbai Indians, went back to the pavilion for a duck by Anrich Nortje followed by the splendid catch by Mitchell Marsh at slip. A couple of overs later, KKR lost their skipper Nitish Rana to Ishant Sharma at the score of 32.

However, opener Jason Roy took the innings further with wickets falling regularly from the other end. The England batter got out after playing a steady knock of 43 runs off 39 balls hitting five fours and a maximum. KKR lost their wickets at the score of 96. After that, Andre Russell took charge of the innings and remained unbeaten on 38 runs off 31 balls as the visitors were able to cross 120 runs. The Caribbean batter socred one four and four sixes during his innings. For DC, Ishant Sharma, Anrich Nortje, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav took 2-2 wickets each, while Mukesh Kumar put 1 in his bag.

Delhi Captials scuffled in a easy run chase after good start

Chasing the winning total, skipper David Warner and Prithvi Shaw were looking to give a DC a good start by adding 38 runs for the first wicket in 4.3 overs. But Shaw continued his poor form and got out dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy after scoring 13 off 11. After that, Warner took charge of the inning with wickets falling from the other end at regular intervals. The DC skipper scored his fourth half-century of the season and got out after scoring 57 runs off 41 balls scoring 11 boundaries.

After Warner’s wicket, DC lost momentum again and went on to lose regular wickets again. Manish Pandey also got out in the 16th over after scoring 21 off 23 putting DC in more trouble. Delhi now required 7 off the last six balls. Both teams were heading toward another last ball thriller but the no-ball by Kulwant Khejroliya put thing in DC’s favour and they chased the winning total in losing 6 wickets with just four balls to spare. Ankul Roy, Varun Chakravarthy and Nitish Rana took 2-2 wickets each for KKR.
