‘End result will be whitewash’ – Fans react as Pakistan lose Test match against Australia and continue 24 year long streak

Australia and Pakistan recently encountered each other for the first test match of Pakistan’s tour of Australia in Perth. Australia won the toss and chose to bat to put a high score on the board. The team put 487 runs on the board while dismissing Pakistan for just 271 runs in the first innings of the match.

The Australian batters collectively put runs together. The opening batsman David Warner scored 164 runs off 211 balls with a strike rate of 77.73 in his farewell test match series. The middle-order batters Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head had a high partnership as they scored 90 and 40 runs each off 107 and 53 balls respectively, later Pakistan got dismissed for 271 in the first innings.

Australia got a lead of 216 runs in the second innings and declared the match after putting another 233 runs on the board in the second innings. Pakistan once again failed to make a mark and got dismissed for a mere 89 runs and Australia registered a huge victory with 360 runs.

Pat Cummins on Australia’s performance in the first Test Match against Pakistan

“Great start to the summer. Everything fell in place so couldn’t be happier. We’ve played a lot of cricket here, it’s an experienced side so the build-up was very chilled and relaxed. That was huge. His (Warner) and Izzy’s partnership at the start set it up for us. To get 350 odd (on the first day), we were really ahead of the game from the first day. (On Marsh) He’s one of the favourites of the West, he’s also one of my favourites. It’s great to see him back in Australia and playing a Test after five (six) years”, said Pat Cummins in the postmatch ceremony after winning the first test match against Pakistan.

While talking about Lyon, Cummins said, “500 Test wickets around the world is huge. Couldn’t be happier for him. He was out for six months with a calf injury and it’s great to see him back. Going to get home for a few days and we’ll get together on the 22nd or the 23rd. It’s always nice to have the families together for Christmas Day before we get to work.”
