England announce replacement for Jason Roy in England’s 15-man squad for ODI World Cup 2023
The England Cricket Board has made some last-minute changes as they amended their previously presented 15-man squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup, 2023, which will be held in India across 10 venues. Previously, Jason Roy was named in the 15-man squad, but he has now been replaced by England’s young attacking opening batsman, Harry Brook.
With the presence of Harry Brook, the team gets a strong candidate to bat in the top order on the number three or number four position since Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan will be expected to open for the team. Luke Wright talked about how the board has selected a strong squad that can perform exceedingly well on the Indian pitches while meeting a strong New Zealand team in the first match of the ODI World Cup on 5 October at the Narendra Modi stadium, Ahmedabad.
Luke Wright on Harry Brook’s selection in the ODI World Cup squad
“We have selected a squad we are confident can go to India and win the World Cup. We are blessed with an incredibly strong group of white-ball players which was underlined by the performances in the series win against a very good New Zealand team. The strength of the group has meant that we have had to make some tough decisions on world-class players with Jason Roy missing out and Harry Brook coming into the squad”, said Luke Wright, England, cricket team’s national selector.
“If you ask people to play in an aggressive way, then leave them out as soon as it goes wrong, it sends the wrong message. You can’t just pick a World Cup squad from these four games”, said England cricket team’s captain Jos Buttler.
England’s updated squad for the ODI World Cup 2023: Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.
