On this day, back in 2014, the Indian Cricket Team registered a memorable victory against England at the Lord’s. Men in Blue won the match at this venue after a long wait of 28 years, and this was their second win at this venue. The first victory for the Blues came back in 1986. In the second victory, the hero of the match was the star India bowler, Ishant Sharma who claimed figures of 7/74 in the fourth innings of the Test match.

This was the second Investec Test match of the four-match Test series of the England tour. This match was played between July 17 to 21. This game proved to be a nail-biter as both of the teams showed exceptional cricketing skills. However, India proved to be a better side on the last day of the Test match as they bundled out England 223 runs and India went on to win the match by 95 runs.

I think all these wickets are not for me, it is for the captain: Ishant Sharma

Ishant was the star performer for Team India on the decisive day of the second Test match. The seamer registered his best bowling figures in the history of Test cricket which was 7/74.  The 34-year-old dismantled the likes of Alastair Cook, Ian Bell, Joe Root, Moeen Ali, Matt Prior, Ben Stokes, and Stuart Broad while they were chasing a big target of 319 runs. He was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant bowling performance in the fourth innings.

“The way batters played in the first innings, Ajinkya played really well in the first innings, that gave us the momentum. Also, the way Vijay played, Jaddu and Bhuvi also. Cricket is a great leveler, the way MS bhai handled the team, the way he keeps on motivating the guys. I think all these wickets are not for me, it is for the captain. He told me, ‘You are tall enough, you have to bowl the bouncer,’ that’s what I did and it worked for me,” Ishant was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation.
