Fans allege ‘fixing’ angle after the Indian T20 League 2022 final between Gujarat and Rajasthan

The term ‘fixing’ has unfortunately been associated with the Indian T20 League for the last many years. Since the 2013 spot-fixing saga, the league has been alleged to be unfair to the teams and certain of some results. For the unversed, some players and team owners were arrested for spot-fixing and betting during the 2013 Indian T20 League. Every year, there has been a bunch of fans who notoriously allege the league of fixing.
The same bunch returned once again and alleged that the final of the Indian T20 League 2022 between Gujarat and Rajasthan was ‘fixed’ in the favor of Gujarat. This bunch reasoned that the presence of Indian home minister Amit Shah and the game played in Ahmedabad. Notably, the venue of the final was decided early this month when nobody knew that Gujarat will make it to the final.
Fans also pointed out the lack of excitement after winning the title from skipper Hardik Pandya and BCCI secretary Jay Shah’s celebrations after Gujarat’s win point to ‘fixing’. They feel that at least Shah could have been neutral on the matter because he is a BCCI official. Talking about the game, Rajasthan won the toss and elected to bat first. They had a decent start as they were 60/1 at one stage.
However, the wicket of skipper Sanju Samson bought a collapse in the team as they could only muster 130/9. In reply, the team was tottering at 23/2 but chased down the total with seven wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare. With this, they won their maiden title in their debut season. Meanwhile, little do the reader who that the team was about to be barred from playing the tournament in January this year.
At that time, the team owners were under pressure after their association with a betting company in UK. The BCCI delayed the contract between the contract between the franchise and themselves. After a while, the team got an NOC to play in the 15th season.
