Legendary cricketer AB de Villiers hung his boots from all formats of the game on November 19. De Villiers, who had already retired from international cricket, was an active player in franchise cricket. He looked in decent touch in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL). He was one of the players set to be retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Some even speculated that De Villiers might take over leadership duties from Virat Kohli. However, the veteran surprised many by announcing his retirement.

Right from fans, contemporaries, experts and critics, everyone paid a rich tribute to the legend for his contribution to the game. Former Punjab Kings pacer Parwinder Awana also extended his wishes to De Villiers on a successful career. However, the pacer’s tribute though was not appreciated by many.

While several former and current cricketers appreciated De Villiers by mentioning his special knocks, his bond with RCB, and calling him a modern-day legend, Awana took to Twitter and shared a post of an old match between RCB and Punjab Kings wherein he managed to clean bowled ABD. He captioned the post, “Thank you @ABdeVilliers17 for your contribution to cricket.”

As soon as the netizens took notice of Awana’s tweet, he was slammed for insulting De Villiers. They felt it was Insulting to a player who has contributed a lot to RCB. Taking a wicket of De Villiers is special for any bowler in any format but to post a video of him getting out to pay tribute was a questionable decision. Awana was mercilessly trolled on Twitter for his blunder.

De Villiers has been one of the best players in the IPL, often making the bowlers look clueless on his day. The former South African batter has won many duels with the top-class bowlers of his era like Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah. The Tweet came when the spotlight was on De Villiers, when fans were already heartbroken by the news that they won’t see their beloved player in the IPL anymore.
