At the start of Day Three of the Ranchi Test between India and England, the home side was way behind. In reply to the Three Lions’ 353, the Asian side was struggling at 219/7. The two-time World Test Championship finalists trailed by 134 runs with Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav at the crease. The pair batted till the first drinks break of the day before Yadav was cleaned up by James Anderson.

He batted for 131 balls during his innings and scored 28 runs. On the other hand, Jurel and debutant Akash Deep added another 40 runs with the latter hitting his first six in Tests. The former India U19 wicketkeeper batter, Jurel scored 90 and was the last player to fall before the Lunch break was taken. When he came out to bat, the team trailed by 192. At the end of the innings, the European side managed a lead of only 46 runs.

India looks strong enough to win the game on Day Four

After being trailing by only 46 runs, the Rohit Sharma-led side needed to bowl out the opposition for a low score. Ravichandran Ashwin took two back-to-back wickets in the fifth over to begin with. At 19/2, the likes of former skipper Joe Root and Zak Crawley put together 46 runs before the former was trapped lbw. On the other hand, Crawley scored a fifty before he failed to keep out the in-spinning delivery from Yadav. The latter removed Stokes in the last over before Tea.

At the first ball of the evening session, Jonny Bairstow lost his wicket to a soft dismissal, and with the wickets of Ollie Robinson and Tom Hartley, the team had only Ben Foakes to fight for them. For some strange reason, Foakes didn’t try to hit many runs like Jurel did for India while batting with the tail. After batting for more than 10 overs, the team managed only more than as many runs. In the end, the team was bowled out for 145 with Ashwin picking his fifer.

In reply, chasing 192 to win the game and the series, India started with 40/0 at stumps on Day Three.
