Rahul Sharma and Wayne Parnell consuming narcotics
Wayne Parnell and Rahul Sharma were found at a rave party with many film personalities during the 2012 season. The police raided the place and arrested the two players along with a few more. Both players refused to have used narcotics but they did test positive later. However, no action was taken against the duo.
Spot-fixing scandal
Hard to forget this controversy which took place during the 2013 season. Firstly, three players from Rajasthan, Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan, and Ajit Chandila were arrested on the charges of spot-fixing. After a series of investigations, it was found that Chennai team principal Gurunath Meiyappan and Rajasthan co-owners Raj Kundra were indulged in betting. They were banned by the franchises and the BCCI. Both teams were suspended from the league in late 2015 for two seasons.
Ashwin’s Mankading
In the fourth game of the 2019 season, Punjab skipper Ashwin ‘ Mankaded’ Rajasthan’s Jos Butler and derailed a certain win for the latter’s side. In the 13th over of the Rajasthan’s innings, the offs-spinner was about to release the ball and saw Butler advance a step or two away from the crease, and flicked the bails. It was given out, and RR lost the match from after being 108/1 at one stage, chasing 171 runs to win. Butler later said that his bat was indeed inside the crease till the point of delivery. The incident divided the fans with one half supporting Butler and the others justifying Ashwin’s Mankading.
