India’s tour of South Africa is set to see the team play across all three formats. Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and KL Rahul have been chosen as the skipper for the tour. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are taking a break from the white ball format during the tour.

The upcoming tour of South Africa is witnessing a few new names in the Indian set-up in select formats. While the Indian Cricket Team is head towards a new direction, a few players may have seen their careers coming to a close.

In this article let us take a closer look at the five Indian players whose careers might be over after getting snubbed for the South African tour.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar –

The right-arm-medium pacer last played for India in 2022 but hasn’t been considered since the New Zealand tour. Bhuvneshwar Kumar emerged as one of the best swing bowlers in the last decade. A combination of injuries and lack of swing has seen the bowler from UP lose his place in the side. The latest snub for the South African tour might not be the end of the world but it does look like Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s career is set for a premature end.

Cheteshwar Pujara –

India’s defensive rock for the last decade since the retirement of Rahul Dravid has been none other than Cheteshwar Pujara. The 35–year last played for India during the World Test Championships final. While Pujara hasn’t been picked for the South African tour there is still hope that Pujara could find his way back to the Indian team soon. For now, the hopes seem to be fading to see Pujara batting in his favorite number 3 spot.

Mayank Agarwal –

Since making his debut for India in 2018 during the tour of Australia, Mayank Agarwal became an integral part of the Indian team. The 32-year-old played his last game for India against Sri Lanka in 2022. Since then the right-handed batter from Bangalore has been snubbed for the Indian duties. The latest snub for the South African series might well indicate Mayank Agarwal’s fading stocks in Indian Cricket. With age on his side the flamboyant batter can still come back to the Indian side.

Ajinkya Rahane –

One of India’s best batters in the test format during the last decade along with Kohli and Pujara has been Ajinkya Rahane. After a tremendous comeback during the WTC final, Ajinkya Rahane found the going tough during the tour of West Indies and that performance has seen him get snubbed for the South African tour. At 35-years old, Rahane is in the final stretch of his career and this may very well look like the end of the road in the Indian team.

Umesh Yadav –

The man from Nagpur has been a key fixture in the Indian team since the last decade. Aged 36-years old, there are doubts that fans may have seen the last of Umesh Yadav. After getting snubbed for the South African tour there are changes that the right-arm pacer might be heading into the sunset. Considered one of the fittest members of the side, Umesh Yadav could spring a surprise by making a comeback for the home series against England.
