Ravichandran Ashwin revealed the auction and trading strategies of some of the top IPL franchises. The star cricketer revealed that the top teams like Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are always interested in some of the top players in the world. “They have never given players; they have only taken players. And they have five titles each. That’s a proper platform that they have built their franchise on,” said Ashwin.

Ashwin said that teams like MI and CSK are ready to pay the players as much money as possible. Ashwin backed it up with an example. When the spinner was the captain of the Punjab Kings in 2019, MI had consulted them to get David Miller. “When I was Punjab captain, Mumbai Indians showed heavy interest in trading David Miller. They were willing to give as much money as possible,” said Ashwin on his YouTube channel.

Ashwin spoke about player retention, trading, auction strategies, and several other aspects of the IPL in his latest episode on YouTube. Speaking about the same, Ashwin said that tournaments are won in auction strategies. The All-rounder spoke about the latest trade of Hardik Pandya with Mumbai Indians. The Indian spinner said that MI had struck gold by getting the trade done.

Ashwin added that Mumbai would benefit a lot from the trade. Ashwin said that MI got the Indian T20I captain, who won the IPL in 2022 and became a runner-up in 2023 with GT. Ashwin jokingly said that Hardik went to GT as if to complete an MBA degree and return with flying colours. Hardik was purchased by MI for IPL 2024 for a price of a whopping INR 15 crores.

Hardik is currently not in the Indian setup due to the injury he sustained in the ODI World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh. In the big tournament, Hardik suffered an ankle injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament. Reports suggest that Hardik would not be available for selection till March, which would mean him missing out on a lot of series for India.
