Five Indian players who might not feature in ODIs after World Cup 2023
4. Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami had a stellar performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. The Indian seamer was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament and claimed wickets for fun. In 7 innings, Shami claimed 24 wickets at a stunning bowling average and bowling strike rate, including three 5-wicket hauls and a 4-wicket haul. In the semifinal of the tournament, Shami helped India to overcome New Zealand with his career-best spell of 7/57 at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
Shami achieved all these feats at the age of 33. For a pacer, the age of 33 is a milestone in itself. At such an age, many pacers tend to retire from international cricket. Owing to several factors like drop in pace, drop in form, fitness concerns, and other reasons, the players tend to concentrate on shorter formats. Pace bowling is an art in itself. Shami might still be the leader of the attack in the longest format of the game. But the right-arm pacer might not play in ODIs.
