Former England captain reveals which former Indian captain could have emulated ‘BazBall’ in Tests

On December 5, England created history in the historic Test match against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. Talking about the game, it was the first Test for England in Pakistan after 2005. The only similarity between the 2005 and 2022 teams is James Anderson. He was part of both squads. Meanwhile, the Three Lions were the only team that played for the win since Day One of the game.

While batting, their run rate was more than six runs on average. On the other hand, they kept going for wickets and persisted with attacking fields while bowling. This resulted in them winning the game even though the wicket. At a time when England’s cricket fraternity is celebrating the hard-earned win, former England cricketer David Lloyd has opined that Virat Kohli used to have the same effect on the Indian Team.

Apparently, the commentator was speaking about England’s win. He opined that the combination of Ben Stokes (Test skipper, England) and Brendon McCullum (head coach) is doing a good job but it’s not new in the game. The left-hander added that the Australian team in the 90s, and the West Indies of the 70s and 80s used to play the same way.

He further added that the Indian batters are stats driven but Virat Kohli would have the same impact.

“It is not totally new, of course. The Australian team of the 90s were very positive and the great West Indian sides were full of exhilarating stroke-makers. I reckon a team capable of this style now is India. They have all the tools. There has been a suspicion that Indian batters are stats driven but Virat Kohli is one who could drive this,” the former cricketer-turned-commentator wrote in his column for The Daily Mail.
