Former England spinner joins ‘boycott gang’ for the movie Laal Singh Chaddha
Former England left-arm spinner Monty Panesar has called for the boycott of Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor starrer movie ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. The movie is a remake of Forrest Gump, a Hollywood movie made in 1994. That movie depicted a man with a low IQ who made his way into the United States (US) army. Khan is playing the role of the Protagonist of this film, and is playing a Sikh character.
Notably, the superstar has played the same role played by Tom Hanks in the Hollywood movie. The former English left-arm spinner Monty Panesar has pointed out that the depiction of Sikhs in the movie is disgraceful in the movie. He explained that the movie fits well in the US Army but not in India and how it is disrespectful to the Indian Sikhs and the Armed Forces.
“Forrest Gump fits in the US Army because the US was recruiting low IQ men to meet requirements for the Vietnam War. This movie is total disgrace to India Armed Forces Indian Army and Sikhs !!Disrespectful. Disgraceful. #BoycottLalSinghChadda,” Panesar wrote on Twitter.

This isn’t the first time that the calls for boycotting this movie have been made in India. In the last few days, there have been instances where #BoycottLalSinghChadda’ has been trending on social media. A lot of users of the micro-blogging site are calling to boycott the movie. However, their reasons for ignoring the movie are very different from the former England player.
Reacting to the boycott calls, the lead actor in the movie recently said “I do not want to hurt anyone, but if people don’t want to see the film, I would respect that too. There is not much you can do about that. But I would still want Laal Singh Chaddha to reach a wide audience. A movie is brought to life by a team of a hardworking crew and artistes, so I just hope people like it.”
Talking about the movie, it has been directed by Advait Chandan, written by Atul Kulkarni and produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Viacom18 Studios and has been released as we speak. Apart from Khan and Kapoor, actors such as Akkineni Naga Chaitanya, Mona Singh, and Manav Vij have featured in the film.
