Former Indian cricketer to eye Babar Azam over Virat and Rohit in ODI World Cup 2023
India’s former cricketer, Gautam Gambhir recently got in an exclusive chat on the Star sports TV program, ‘Mission, World Cup’ to talk about the most impactful batsman who can play the strongest innings in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. The ODI World Cup 2023 will be held in India and the matches will be played across 10 cities of India.
During the chat, the former cricketer was asked to select a top-order batsman whom he will be eyeing in the upcoming World Cup from a list of batsmen who are expected and have consistently given stellar performances in the ODI World Cup. Notably, Gautam Gambhir was part of the ODI World Cup 2011 squad which India won at their home.
The list of ‘ the seven wonders of cricket’ included the names of players who have served their loyalty and have contributed to international cricket for their respective Nations. The list included Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Kane Williamson, Steve Smith, David Warner, Babar Azam and Joe Root.
Over the current and former Indian captains, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who will definitely be favourites on the Indian pitches, Gautam Gambhir selected the Pakistani Skipper and top-order batsman Babar Azam over all these legendary batsmen who have time and again stood tall for their country since a decade. These other batsmen have played some of the most spectacular innings in the history of Cricket. As believed by Gautam Gambhir Babar Azam can be fiery in the ODI World Cup, 2023.
Gautam Gambhir believes Babar Azam will have a good ODI World Cup 2023
While replying back to the interviewer Gautam Gambhir revealed the name of the batsman whom he will be eyeing the most during the ODI World Cup. Gautam said, “Babar Azam. I think Babar Azam has all those types of qualities needed in a batsmen and Babar Azam can totally set this ODI World Cup on fire. There are multiple batsmen that I have seen who have so much time while batting and who time the ball well. Also, I think even though Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, David Warner, Steve Smith, Rohit Sharma, and Joe Root are there in the tournament, but Babar Azam has those qualities.”
