The first match of the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League is just a few hours away, where the four times champion Chennai will take on the defending champions Gujarat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Gujarat will be looking to repeat their blockbuster performance like the previous year when they won clinched the title in their maiden season in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Chennai will be looking to go ahead of the disastrous season in 2022, which was the only second time after 2020, when they failed to qualify for the playoffs. One of the most successful teams in the Indian T20 League finished in the ninth position in the points table last year. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was appointed as the skipper of the franchise ahead of the previous season after MS Dhoni decided to step down from the captaincy. However, Dhoni had to renounce his decision after Jadeja was relinquished from captaincy after Chennai’s poor performance in the first half of the season.

‘One player who I am going to have my eyes on will be Ravindra Jadeja’ – Harbhajan Singh

However, the Indian all-rounder is in great form now and can be a crucial player for Chennai in the upcoming season. Jadeja has been one of the great all-rounders who could take important wickets as a bowler and can add quick runs to the team’s total with his bat. Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh also has high hopes for Jadeja in the upcoming season. Harbhajan believes that the 34-year-old could be promoted up the order for Chennai.

“One player who I am going to have my eyes on will be Ravindra Jadeja. I want to see what kind of batting he’s going to do for Chennai. I think he’ll be pushed higher up in the batting order (this season). As well as his four overs with the ball (will be key). If you look at world cricket currently, there’s no better all-rounder than him. So, I am looking forward to seeing Ravindra Jadeja performing in the Indian T20 League,” Harbhajan said on the Star Sports Network.

The former cricketer also spoke about Chennai’s opening game against Gujarat. He said that credit for Gujarat’s success in the preceding season goes to the skipper Hardik Pandya and coach Ashish Nehra.

“One thing which they’ve done better than the rest is that they’ve been very flexible. They’ve never been rigid about who bats where. We saw Hardik Pandya coming up in the batting order and scoring those runs and he wasn’t just slogging the ball, he played like a proper batter for Gujarat last season. He was very smart last season. Jonty Rhodes once said ‘a happy team is a winning team’ and that’s the formula this team applied. From what I gathered from Ashish Nehra and the entire team management, they were a very-very happy team,” mentioned Harbhajan.
