Former Pakistan cricketer calls for ‘dropping’ non-performing Rishabh Pant
India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant has been facing the heat for the lack of runs in the last few months. Since his maiden ODI hundred in a game against England in July this year, he hasn’t been able to hit a fifty. In the Men’s Asia Cup and 20-20 World Cup 2022, the left-hander failed to impress. His poor form has continued during India’s ongoing series against New Zealand.
This is not the only reason for his criticism. Apparently, Pant has been favored over Sanju Samson who has done well in the limited opportunities this year. Not to forget, whenever Samson had been ignored during the series, the Men In Blue’s team management faces the ire of the fans. Meanwhile, former Pakistan leggie, Danish Kaneria has called for dropping Pant if he doesn’t perform in the upcoming game against the Kiwis on November 30 and in the ODIs against Bangladesh.
“It’s time to give the entire series to Rishabh Pant and then try and show him the exit door. We have given you plenty of opportunities.”
“Many wicket-keeper batters are coming up, like Ishan Kishan has been doing well. He has performed whenever he gets the chance. Sanju has been very consistent,” he said.
Rishabh Pant is a better Test player than ODI and T20I combined: Danish Kaneria
The former Test cricketer further added that Pant is a better Test player than limited-overs combined. The former feels that Sanju Samson will be a better option in white-ball format.
“I have been saying for a long time that Rishabh Pant is a red-ball player. He is a superb player in Test cricket. ODI and T20Is are not his class.
“How he gets out in T20I and ODI cricket puts a lot of pressure on the team, but Sanju builds his innings and takes it to the end, supports the team, provides stability and how he bats, the kind of shots he plays, we can’t forget that,” he said.
