Recently, Pakistan Cricket Board chairperson Ramiz Raja has ‘threatened’ that his national side will pull out of the ODI World Cup 2023. He cited ‘India’s possibility of not playing the Men’s Asia Cup’ next year. The continental tournament will be hosted by Pakistan while the showpiece event will be played in India.

Since Jay Shah’s announcement of ‘India won’t play in Pakistan’, the PCB and the Indian Cricket Board have been locking horns over the matter. Pakistan has been firm on its stance and has asked India to play the Asia Cup in Pakistan. If not, the Shaheens won’t be playing the ODI World Cup. Meanwhile, former Pakistan leggie Danish Kaneria has slammed Raja over the matter.

PCB doesn’t have enough guts to boycott World Cup: Danish Kaneria

The former leg-spinner has said that the PCB doesn’t have ‘enough guts’ to boycott a World Cup. He added not playing the tournament would have a huge impact on them.

“The PCB does not have enough guts to boycott a World event. India, on the other hand, don’t care if Pakistan don’t come. They have a huge market that generates a lot of revenue. Not travelling to India for the World Cup will have a major effect on Pakistan,” he said.

“Pakistan will ultimately travel to India for the World Cup. Officials will say that they had no other option as there was pressure from the World Cricket Governing Council. It will hurt Pakistan cricket badly if they talk about skipping an ICC event again and again,” he added.

“There is still a lot of time for the Asia Cup. We can’t be sure that everything will be fine in the country by then or if the tournament will be conducted on Pakistani soil or not. We don’t know what the situation will be like during that time. t could also be possible that, apart from India, teams like Bangladesh and Afghanistan also refuse to travel to Pakistan. The people of Pakistan want the Asia Cup to be played in their country. However, you have to remain on the back foot because of the situation of the nation,” he said.
