Former Pakistan pacer claims Mohammad Amir could return to national side
With less than a year left in the ODI World Cup in India, Pakistan has a lot of questions to answer especially in the bowling department. Even though they did well with the ball in the 20-20 World Cup 2022, the ODI format is a different ball game. Due to many reasons, most teams across the globe haven’t played enough ODIs in the last couple of years.
Meanwhile, talking about the Pakistan pacers, the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf have gotten injured. The former was risked for the 20-20 World Cup, only for the injury to resurface in the final. On the other hand, Shah got and Rau got injured during the three-match Test series against England. Also, not to forget, the Asian side’s pacers have struggled in the four Tests they played this month.
They have taken only two wickets in the last four games. Meanwhile, in a discussion with Samaa News, former Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz claimed that his former teammate, Mohammad Amir might make a comeback. The latter retired from international cricket in 2020 due to issues with former coaches, Waqar Younis and Misbah Ul Haq. Since then, he has been playing in leagues such as PSL, CPL, etc.
“We may see Mohammad Amir coming back to play for Pakistan once again”, he said.
“We have Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf but the other three spots are still available. Bowlers like Hasan (Ali), (Shahnawaz) Dahani, Naseem (Shah), (Muhammad) Wasim are fighting for it. Amir may come back, too”, he further added.
Difficult for Mohammad Amir to make a comeback in Pakistan’s side
Meanwhile, since Amir’S retirement, the Green Brigade has seen some raw talents playing for Pakistan and making a mark on occasions in the T20I format. Players such as Shahnawaz Dahani, Muhammad Waseem, Naseem Shah, etc have played well in the T20I format. With so much competition, it would be difficult for Amir to make a comeback despite his experience.
